STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Alexis Ford-Green
What is your current occupation?
Full-Time Wife and Mother/Part-Time Online Science Professor
Are you a parent, and does your child/children dance?
Yes. I have two daughters, Sidney (11) and Riley (6). My children currently take acrobatics classes and will return to ballet classes in the summer.
When did you realize you loved ballet?
I fell in love with ballet when I started taking dance classes when I was five years old. I was very shy as a child and I found ballet/dance class was a place where I could express myself, build confidence, and have fun.
What do you consider to be some of your most outstanding dance accomplishments?
Being a member of the Moving Images Dance Company(High School), a member of Jackson State University Dance Ensemble, and member of the Prancing J-Settes Dance Team (College) - all of which allowed me to travel around the country and perform. After I graduated from college, I was able to use those skills to teach and choreograph praise and liturgical dances for various churches.
Alexis has also made tremendous strides in her personal healthcare and wellness by consistently taking Adult Ballet classes at Classical Ballet of Mobile. She is on the “unlimited” class plan and takes full advantage of each opportunity to get fit and feel great.
What brought you to Classical Ballet of Mobile?
I missed dancing so much. I regularly searched for adult dance classes that would fit into my schedule. When I found out that Classical Ballet of Mobile offered ballet and musical theater classes during the day, I quickly signed up. I was so excited to have the opportunity to dance again.
What has been your favorite part about dancing with Classical Ballet of Mobile as an adult?
I love the high-quality instruction that I have received from Mrs. Jacqueline and Mr. Jeff. They are both so outstanding teachers and so encouraging. I also felt completely welcomed by all of the other dancers.
What advice would you like to share with younger dancers who want to be just like you when they grow up?
1. Put God first in your life. 2. Listen attentively and work hard in school and dance class. 3. Listen and implement all corrections made by your instructors (even if they were given to another dancer). 4. Set goals for yourself and strive to reach them every day. You'll be amazed at how much you can accomplish if you are consistent.
What advice would you like to share with other adults who are thinking about taking dance lessons?
I would highly recommend trying a dance class. It's fun and it's a great way to exercise.
